Pat Opin Ltd was founded by Martin Connors to offer a specialist patent opinion advice service. In particular for infringement assessment, product launch strategy, clearance searches and opinions. Martin is a qualified European and UK Patent Attorney with over 20 years of experience, in the medical, engineering and manufacturing sectors. Martin spent over 19 years with the in-house patents department of a multinational FTSE 100 healthcare company. In that time Martin gained a deep understanding of the medical device sector and in particular the patent issues in the fields of wound management, orthopaedics and endoscopy. A key part of Martin's role was on the product launch strategy, often into a very aggressive worldwide market.
Martin has considerable knowledge and experience in oppositions and appeals before the European Patent Office, and in providing opinions and advice relating to acquisitions, collaborations and multinational patent litigation. He is able to apply his extensive product launch experience to challenges faced by clients to provide straight-forward commercially focused advice.
After graduating with Honours from the University of Aberdeen in Microbiology, Martin continued working at the University of Aberdeen on an immunological research project.
Martin is also an Examiner for the UK Patent Examination Board, the authority that sets the qualifying exams to qualify as a Chartered Patent Attorney (UK).
